www.ups.comI rent tables, floor and some lights. I send three cardboard cartons via UPS several weeks in advance. The boxes have to be replaced after two shows. The jewelry is carry-on, of course.

We use either third-day UPS or FedEx. All our shows are in Baltimore, which is a few thousand miles away. For the amount of time, its cheaper for us to send it on a plane than drive the distance. By packing it up and sending it on a plane, its not rattling across the country in a car.

Shipping hand-blown art glass from Alaska is relatively easy its all in the timing. For the winter shows in Baltimore and Philadelphia, I ship out my glasswork UPS, 100-weight service, three weeks before the show. Usually, with all the oversized boxes, my shipment weighs about 250 lbs., and costs about $300. [If I ship last minute before the show], I use Emery Air deferred service, which is about the same cost. I double-box and cavity-pack all my work to ensure it gets to the East Coast safely.

I used to do many more shows back in the day, but now, I only do two shows a year in Baltimore. So, twice a year Ill take my pickup truck and load that up with all my pottery. I used to do more shows, but my pottery is very heavy and it was getting too expensive for me, and all the loading and unloading was too much for me to handle. I dont like sending with UPS because my stuff is pretty heavy.

Carrying my wearables with me at all times whether it is on a plane or in a car is the right way to go. I try not to ship valuable stuff like that without me being nearby.Randall Darwall

I usually drive them myself. My work is fairly small so Im able to take it with me and have no problems. But, my second choice would be UPS.Sandra Byers

Driving the jewelry myself is much more convenient. You dont have to worry about a lot of things. For instance, you dont have to worry about shipping services not insuring lost jewelry or other material. You feel safer this way.Barbara Mail

We get our stuff transported privately through Art in Motion. They transport most of the stuff like the booth, hangers, stools, etc. But, we usually drive the clothing over ourselves. If its not convenient to drive, then well UPS them over, but with Art in Motion shipping the stuff back to us, there is no need for UPS.Lori Bacigalupi
