The association promotes the art of basketry by holding an annual convention each October in either Grand Rapids or Traverse City. The conference features experienced teachers from all over the world. A Spring Event is often offered, with classes, lectures and sales put on by one of the local guilds.

The Handmade Paper (HMP) Guild discusses and promotes contemporary trends and techniques of handmade paper as an art form. Founded in 1992 in Kalamazoo, Mich., it is a not-for-profit organization which sponsors exhibitions, workshops, field trips, and educational opportunities. Monthly meetings, newsletter, dues.
