CERF Fund-raisers Bring in $30,000

The Craft Emergency Relief Fund (CERF) held its most successful "Silent Auction" ever at the Philadelphia Buyer's Market of American Craft in February. The eighth annual auction raised almost $24,000 for the nonprofit organization that assists craftspeople affected by career-threatening disasters. More than 300 craftspeople donated work that was displayed in space donated by The Rosen Group, producers of the Buyers Market.

CERF's "Silent Auction" organizer Martha Giberson commented, "We had a whole new look this year, thanks to the generous donations of cases, shelves and tables from Mike Hill of HCT Convention Services. The fine-looking exhibition, great location on the concourse and beautiful items donated by so many exhibitors made for very active bidding on the part of buyers and exhibitors. It was the most successful Silent Auction we've ever had."

The annual CERF raffle at the American Craft Council's (ACC) February Show in Baltimore raised over $6,000 for CERF's programs and services. Four items were raffled for this year's event. The ACC donated two half-booth fee reimbursements that were won by Charles and Kathleen Tesnakis of EkoLogic and Jaclyn Davidson. Bob Nichols won a one-of-a-kind glass bowl made and donated by Josh Simpson as well as a one-night stay donated by the Renaissance Harborplace Hotel. Grey Christian won a dinner for two donated by the Joy America Cafe and a one-night stay donated by the Baltimore Hilton and Towers.
